From Federation Clay to Modern PVC
The homes here were not all built at once, and what sits under the ground changes with the era.
The oldest, from before 1940, were plumbed with earthenware clay. Woodlands, the heritage-listed house where Ethel Turner wrote Seven Little Australians, dates from that Federation period, and clay pipes of that vintage sit cracked and loose at the joints today.
Houses raised through the 1960s to 1980s brought heavier brick and a mix of pipe materials that are now middle-aged and tiring.
